President of Brazil Jair Bolsonaro.

Brasilia: The Commission for the Defense of Human Rights Dom Paulo Evaristo Arns called on those truly committed to democracy and the right to life in Brazil to say enough to the government of President Jair Bolsonaro today, Prensa Latina publishes.

In an article published in the newspaper O Globo and amplified this Monday by other media, the board, known as the Arns Commission, insists that it is necessary to stop ‘this misrule that has caused so much damage to the lives of Brazilians and to our democracy’.

Such writing is addressed directly to citizens, civil society organizations, political parties, business and religious groups and, above all, the fundamental institutions of the Republic, such as the National Congress, the Federal Supreme Court and the Attorney General of the Republic.

Alert on the actions, omissions and violations committed by Bolsonaro against the rights guaranteed by the Constitution that he swore to defend when he took office in January 2019, the right to health, among them.

The denial by the ex-military of the seriousness of the disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, which causes Covid-19, the promotion of agglomerations and the failure to comply with measures, are associated with the more than 217 thousand deaths from the pandemic in the South American giant.

“President Bolsonaro has been determined from the beginning of his government to deepen political polarization, dividing the country between friends and enemies”, an extract from the article reads.

It denounces that, with a gruesome rhetoric, based on cruelty to the most vulnerable, on racism, obscurantism and the exaltation of violence, weapons and dictatorship, it attacks daily the fundamental pillars of our Republic, as established by the article one of the Constitution.

The authors criticize the government’s equipping of the security apparatus to satisfy the personal interests of the president and his family.

They also point to the shameful omission of the Attorney General, Augusto Aras, in the investigation of the common crimes attributed to the far-right president. Likewise, the commission questions the disastrous foreign policy of Foreign Minister Ernesto Araújo, of hostility towards several countries, which caused, among other acts, the delay in obtaining vaccines against the pathogen.
