Mayabeque, Cuba: In the town Trafico, belonging to the Héctor Molina Popular Council, in the municipality of San Nicolás, Gustavo Ulloa Torres lives with his family.
He puts all his efforts to produce the land in his own yard. He uprooted the weeds, put a little love and will and together with his wife they can see the sowing germinate.
“I began sowing the seeds that I was collecting in the house of fruits, vegetables and little by little I cleaned and sowed tomato, okra, some onion, garlic and made a semi-capped to obtain from there, from that same seed that I was collecting I made a seedbed”.
For Anisley Jiménez González, sharing is a priority, she also works the land and guarantees most of the agricultural products that they consume at home.
“You don’t have to go out into the street to look for it and I also help the community, whoever needs it comes and gets chili, it’s good to have a patio where you can plant everything and it helps.”
This family complied well with the Cuban government’s proposal to achieve self-sufficiency with diversification of productions and maintain 6 ropes of land with good yields.
For the inhabitants of the Trafico village, belonging to the Héctor Molina Popular Council, of San Nicolás, Gustavo and Anisley, are examples of how the land that surrounds them can be produced, with determination and desire to do so.
