Havana, Cuba At midnight yesterday, April 18, Cuba reports 1,060 new cases of COVID-19 and six deaths, the national director of Epidemiology of the Ministry of Public Health (Minsap), Dr. Francisco Durán García, informed this Monday, Cubadebate publishes.
A total of 24,853 patients were admitted, 3,463 suspects, 16,479 under surveillance and 4,911 confirmed active.
For COVID-19, 21,568 samples were studied, resulting in 1,060 positive samples (23 more than the previous day). The country has accumulated 3 385 469 samples carried out and 94 571 positive since March 2020.
Of the total cases (1 060): 1018 were contacts of confirmed cases; 8 with a source of infection abroad; 34 without a specified source of infection.
Of the 1,060 diagnosed cases, 527 were female and 533 male.
44.4% (471) of the 1,060 positive cases were asymptomatic, accumulating a total of 48,110, representing 50.9% of those confirmed to date.
The 1,060 diagnosed cases belong to the age groups: under 20 years of age, (166), of them 155 in pediatric ages (9 under one year); from 20 to 39 years old, (315), from 40 to 59 years old (388) and over 60 years old, (191).

Of the 94,571 patients diagnosed with the disease, 4,911 remain hospitalized, 4,849 of them with stable clinical evolution. There were 531 deaths (six in the day), two evacuees, 54 returned to their countries, there were 1038 discharges on the day, 89 thousand 073 recovered patients accumulated (94.2%). 62 confirmed patients are cared for in intensive care, 30 of them critical and 32 seriously ill.
Until April 18, 190 countries and 29 territories with COVID-19 cases are reported, the confirmed cases amount to 141 million 861 thousand 840 (+ 819 thousand 851) with 18 million 292 thousand 951 active cases and 3 million 29 thousand 583 deaths (+11,693) for a fatality of 2.14.
In the region of the Americas, 60 million 664 thousand 127 confirmed cases (+ 211 thousand 177) are reported, 42.76% of the total cases reported in the world, with 9 million 269 thousand 542 active cases and 1 million 467 thousand 123 deaths (+ 5 thousand 655) for a fatality of 2.42. (IVP)
