Havana, Cuba: The Temporary Working Group of the Government that, headed by the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Party and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, examined the epidemiological situation in Cuba  and insisted in the rigor, control and demand, concepts very reiterated during more than a year of confrontation with COVID-19, Radio Rebelde reports.

According to data offered by the Ministry of Public Health, until this day, the greatest spread of the disease lies in Havana, Artemisa and Mayabeque; 29 local events are active in the country, 12 of them institutional; and 5 thousand 548 infected patients are admitted.

Carry out an effective and quality investigation in the communities, detect in a timely manner as many positive case contacts as possible, properly manage the medical discharges of recovered people and strictly ensure compliance with the measures established in the work centers and institutions of the country, are among the difficulties  of the provinces that reported through videoconference: Pinar del Río, Artemisa, Havana, Mayabeque, Matanzas, Sancti Spíritus, Camagüey, Santiago de Cuba and Guantánamo.

In the particular case of Mayabeque – which this Thursday reported 32 positive cases and in recent days has shown instability in the daily number of those diagnosed – Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz insisted on the importance of studying in depth the epidemiological scenario of this province, which today reports COVID-19 cases in nine of its eleven municipalities.

The Head of Government indicated that more population studies must be carried out to determine why these high and low “peaks” occur in the territory.

On the other hand, from Matanzas, Governor Mario Sabines Lorenzo explained that, although this Thursday an increase in the number of positive cases was reported – accumulating 56 infections, mainly in the capital city and Cárdenas – there is an improvement in epidemiological indicators in the province, with respect to the previous week.

The Matanzas governor specified that “19 controls of outbreaks that were active are already closed, although the spread of the disease in several municipalities continues, it has been mainly concentrated in the city of Matanzas.”

In the last fifteen days, Cuba has diagnosed more than 15,400 positive cases for COVID-19, of the 112,714 reported during the entire epidemic.

Although more than 94 percent of the patients have recovered from this total figure, the country’s hospital institutions continue to fight for the lives of the sick, mainly in the Units where serious and critical patients are cared for.

But this long and difficult fight will not only be won in the National Health System. The Temporary Working Group of the Government headed by President Díaz-Canel emphasizes this every day: we will defeat COVID-19 if each of us fulfills individual responsibility, and the institutions act with rigor, control and demand.
