The Union of Historians of Cuba repudiates the riots and vandalism that took place last Sunday, July 11, at the worst moment of a pandemic that is ravaging the world and when the most unjust, severe and prolonged system of unilateral sanctions that has been applied against any country, which is the economic and financial blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba, it has been intensified in a perverse and criminal way.
The confusion of some people was combined with the bad intention of those who want to return our country to the situation that existed before 1959 and for this they do not hesitate to even request a military intervention, disguised as humanitarian aid, which, far from solving the scenario in the one we are in today would mean chaos and the death of millions of people.
It is not the first time that the United States Government and its pawns organize plans for propaganda and subversion purposes; but these attempts are becoming more and more dangerous.
The Revolution has been able to listen to and address the concerns of the Cuban people in relation to their present and future, always on the basis of ethical principles and defense of our sovereignty, without the aegis of the historical adversary of the Cuban nation.
The provocations that have taken place, unaware of the slightest sense of respect for justice and institutionalism, and inspired by the desire to build, for those who observe us from the outside, a fictitious, media image of internal confrontation, have to be stopped by the revolutionary people.
With the confused and people of good faith who think differently, we can argue, try to persuade them, even disagree with arguments, under the premise that it is not always necessary to reach unanimity and that diverse opinions are useful and lead us to reflect, as long as they are expressed from truly honest positions.
However, to those who with annexationist intentions seek to destabilize the country, the laws that exist to guarantee the sovereignty of the homeland and citizen tranquility must be applied with all rigour.
We will defend the Revolution with our lives, because the existence of our free and sovereign nation depends on it. It is evident that the imperialists want to take advantage of this moment of crisis to overthrow what so much effort, blood and sacrifice has cost the Cuban people to defend for more than sixty years.
The empire and its acolytes, while accusing the Government of our country for the deficiencies that we face today, hinder any possibility of survival and development with the measures of the genocidal blockade. Those who do not understand it will fall into a death trap.
History teaches us that we have to solve our problems with unity, work, discipline and order. Nobody from outside will be able to do it. Let’s not fool ourselves.
The moment is of definition; our slogan “Homeland or Death” expresses the resolution to fight, with arms in hand if necessary, for the defense of the threatened homeland. You cannot compromise with those who hold hatred and betrayal.
