In Cuba: innovative and flexible agricultural marketing.

Havana: Cuba today has a more flexible and innovative marketing policy in agriculture, which is based on the stimulation of agricultural production, in order to guarantee a stable supply, Prensa Latina publishes.

It is about the implementation of one of the 106 measures approved by the government to strengthen the socialist state enterprise in this sector, in order to advance in better conditions and increase the supply of the fruits of the field, the Minister of Agriculture, Ydael Pérez, explained.

The official stressed that among these actions is the new marketing policy for agriculture, which favors not only planting and harvesting, but also sales to meet the demands of the population with a stable supply.

When intervening in the Round Table radio and television space, he recalled that this measure creates better conditions for agreeing prices and contracting with producers, both for social consumption and for sale throughout the network of retail markets.

The head of Agriculture meant that everything is done recognizing the current costs from the country’s economic limitations due to the intensification of the blockade, the effects of Covid-19 and climate change, factors that affect the purchase of inputs to cultivate the land and yields.

“Cuba has had to look for alternatives to increase food production and satisfy the growing needs of the population, hence the 106 measures that are intertwined and are of great importance because they give us the way to save ourselves with our own efforts, energize and develop ourselves locally,” he said.

Pérez insisted that the provisions approved and in execution are an expression of the political and governmental will to strengthen agriculture and the socialist state enterprise, which makes it easier to manage resources and prices, cover the domestic market in foreign currency, boost exports and improve work conditions and wages.

It is about stimulating agricultural production to the maximum with the elimination of obstacles, with novel and innovative mechanisms that recognize all the participants in the process, support the municipalities and local development, he added.

He stressed that although the release of the price cap influences a greater supply of agricultural products in Havana and other territories, due to an increase in production, it is not yet at the desired levels.

The Director of Marketing of the Ministry of Agriculture, Yisel González, assured that today there are no limitations or restrictions for agricultural marketing, because the objective is to avoid losses and that everything that is sown reaches the table of Cubans in the best conditions and with quality.
