Moscow: Both leaders stressed the need to continue fighting the spread of terrorist ideology and the threat of drugs, which emanates from the territory of that Central Asian country, according to the Kremlin press service, Prensa Latina reports.
In the dialogue, at the initiative of the Italian side, Putin and Draghi expressed their support for the consolidation of international efforts, including within the Group of 20, currently chaired by Rome, in order to promote peace and stability in the Islamic nation.
They highlighted the mutual interest in the development of Russian-Italian relations beneficial to both nations in various areas and agreed to continue personal contacts.
Also this Thursday, the Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sergey Lavrov, highlighted the declarations of the Taliban movement in favor of establishing a dialogue with the other political forces in Afghanistan.
In a joint press conference with the Foreign Minister of the Libyan Government of National Unity, Najla al Mangoush, the minister reiterated that Moscow will promote talks between the different sides and seek to turn the results into concrete facts.
Lavrov welcomed the announced meeting in which the head of the Council for National Reconciliation, Abdullah Abdullah, former president Hamid Karzai and the leader of the Islamic party Hezb-e-Islami, Gulbuddin Hekmatyar will be present, the Sputnik news agency said.
On behalf of his country, the official offered the possibility of reactivating the Moscow dialogue table, which involved representatives of the five Central Asian countries, as well as China, the United States, India, Iran, Pakistan, Russia and the Afghan belligerent forces.
Regarding this proposal, he said that at the moment it has not been officially presented, “but the effectiveness of this format that accompanied the Afghan negotiations was recognized by all and we are ready to relaunch it if deemed necessary.”
