Kabul: The Organization of Islamic Countries (OIC) expressed its solidarity with the Afghan people and reiterated the commitment to help the peace, security, stability and development of the war-torn Central Asian country, it was released today.
An extraordinary meeting of the OIC executive committee highlighted the expectations of the international community for Afghanistan in terms of promoting national reconciliation, observance of international conventions and agreements, and adherence to the standards enshrined in the Charter and resolutions of the UN, the Pajhwok agency said.
The meeting underlined in a statement the need to protect and respect the right to life, security and dignity of the Afghan people, in accordance with tolerant Islamic principles and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
Expressed concern about the deterioration of the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan due to the increase in the flow of internally displaced persons and refugees, the impacts of Covid-19 and the drought; and called on Member States and Islamic financial institutions to act to provide humanitarian aid urgently.
He called for the commitment of donor financial institutions to provide the necessary assistance to alleviate the suffering of internally displaced persons in Afghanistan and Afghan refugees in neighboring countries.
The meeting underscored cooperation to facilitate safe evacuation operations and the need for inclusive dialogue among all representative parts of the people of Afghanistan.
He also urged all parties to work in the interests of the Afghan people, renounce violence and urgently restore security and civil order throughout society, and a lasting peace to achieve stability, a dignified life, respect of rights and prosperity.
The Organization of Islamic Countries reaffirmed its full commitment to support the peace and reconciliation process led and undertaken by the Afghans, in order to reach a comprehensive and lasting political solution.
The meeting called on future Afghan leaders and the international community to ensure that Afghanistan is no longer used as a platform or refuge for terrorists, in addition to recalling the serious suffering and difficulties of its people due to the prolonged conflict and violence.
He stressed the need for the international community to support Afghanistan on its path of socio-economic development without interfering in its internal affairs, as well as the need to resolve intra-Afghan differences through peaceful means.
