The Holy See reported this Tuesday in Vatican City that Pope Francis made a first contribution of 200,000 euros to help those affected by the recent earthquake in Haiti, Cubasí reports.
The Department for the Integral Human Development Service indicated in a statement that the donation made by the Supreme Pontiff will be distributed by that agency, in coordination with the Apostolic Nunciature, among the dioceses hardest hit by the tragedy in that Caribbean nation.
He pointed out that the donation will be used in assistance to the victims and wants to be an immediate expression of the feeling of spiritual closeness and paternal encouragement expressed by Francisco, last 15th, towards the affected people and territories.
“Such contribution, accompanied by prayer, to support the beloved Haitian people is part of the aid activated throughout the Catholic Church with the participation of numerous charitable organizations and various Episcopal Conferences,” the text underlined.
