India and Mexico Will Deepen Trade and Energy Cooperation.

India: India and Mexico will deepen trade, space and energy cooperation, it was disclosed today after the official visit of Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar for the events of the 200th anniversary of Mexican independence, Prensa Latina reports.

The Indian Minister of Foreign Affairs served a three-day stay at the invitation of his Mexican counterpart, Marcelo Ebrard, shortly after attending the sessions of the UN General Assembly in New York, the Financial Express newspaper reported.

During his stay on Mexican soil, Jaishankar met with President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, attended the Independence Day celebrations and spoke with executives from the business community.

The talks focused on strengthening cooperation in various sectors, such as energy, space, information and communication technologies, and pharmaceuticals.

This was the first visit by an Indian foreign minister to Mexico since the one made 41 years ago by then-Minister of Foreign Affairs PV Narasimha Rao.

During the meeting with Ebrard, they reviewed cooperation in the areas of trade and investment, space, scientific potential, consular issues and cultural ties.

Mexico is India’s second largest trading partner in Latin America and according to available official data, bilateral exchange reached 10,155 million dollars in 2018.

India exports to Mexico mainly vehicles and auto parts, electronic equipment, ceramic, chemical and aluminum products, as well as steel, gems and electrical machinery, and at the same time imports oil, machinery and electrical items.
