Police Violence Closes Day of Mobilizations in Colombia.

Bogotá: Police violence in several areas of Colombia closed today the national mobilization day called by the National Unemployment Committee, Prensa Latina publishes.

Until after midnight, members of the Anti-Riot Squad (Esmad) attacked young people in this capital who joined the demonstrations whose slogan was For peace, life, democracy, against the package of Duque (President Iván Duque) and corruption.

Through Twitter, public figures and social and non-governmental organizations denounced the excess of this elite body of the police.

Near the demonstrations at the Industrial University of Santander, in Bucaramanga, the army was there to intimidate the young people who decided to demonstrate in commemoration of the five months of the National Strike that began on April 28, said an Internet user named Impure Physicist, on Twitter.

The National President of the Indigenous and Social Alternative Movement, Martha Peralta Epieyú, assured in the same network that they treat peaceful protesters as if this were a war.

‘The State cannot continue to legitimize the excessive violence of Esmad. The demonstration is a right and must be guaranteed. How many people would be seriously injured in this attack alone?” Peralta stressed.

For its part, the organization Lazos de Dignidad, also warned through Twitter that the human rights situation is worrying in this capital.

It assured that verification commissions in Usme and Bosa, in Bogotá, reported injuries, a person with eye damage and an alleged fatality due to the violent actions of Esmad.

In the context of the national strike that began last April 28 and that lasted for almost three months at the national level, human rights organizations and the general population denounced the violence against the protesters.

Murders, torture, eye injuries, sexual abuse, disappearances of people, among others, were some of the human rights violations in the context of social protest.
