Caracas: The recent interventionist statements by the High Representative for Foreign Affairs of the European Union (EU) today raise suspicions about possible conspiracies after the November elections in Venezuela.
According to Prensa Latina, the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, affirmed the previous week that the electoral observation mission, designated by the community bloc for the upcoming elections, would have the objective of accompanying the Venezuelan opposition and its final report will ‘legitimize or delegitimize’ the democratic event.
According to an article by the research and analysis group Misión Verdad, the diplomat seems not to attend to political times, in accordance with the comments made on the bias of the observer delegation and the alleged arbitration with colonial airs.
Misión Verdad also questioned the possibility of the post-election report of the community bloc trying to emulate the role of the Organization of American States in Bolivia in 2019, when a fraudulent report opened the crack for the coup scenario against Evo Morales.
Both the Venezuelan government and the National Electoral Council (CNE) demanded rectifications from the senior European official, given the claims of using the delegation of observers for the benefit of a political bias.
In a statement issued by the Foreign Ministry, the Bolivarian Executive expressed not accepting any interference in the electoral process next November, whose legitimacy and legality “does not depend, nor will it depend, on any foreign actor, but strictly on popular sovereignty.”
Venezuela will go to the polls on November 21 to elect the country’s 23 governors and 335 mayors, as well as the members of the regional and municipal legislative councils.
