The Cuban Ambassador Charge d’Affaires in Spain, Eumelio Caballero, highlighted today that an important part of the society of the Iberian country expresses admiration for the Caribbean island, Prensa Latina publishes.

Caballero, a diplomat with a long career, thus referred to the feelings of a broad segment of sectors of politics and other spheres, solidarity groups and Cubans residing in Spain, among others.

“In Spain there is an extreme right with strong transatlantic ties that will always criticize Cuba, whatever it does. For ideological and internal political reasons, he will always be on the side of the almighty Goliath against little Cuba that resists and does not allow itself to be bent”, he said.

They are the heirs of those colonialists who at the end of the 19th century would have wanted to sell the Island of Cuba to the United States for a handful of dollars, he added.

However, the current head of the Cuban diplomatic legation in Madrid praised “the other Spain, the majority, the one that did not sell us, which all Cubans call the Motherland.”

The one that is hurt by the injustice that the blockade has been committed for more than six decades against “the apple of her eye”, he pointed out.

Caballero reflected on that relevant sector of Spanish society that welcomes the news that reaches them from the largest of the Antilles.

“The less up-to-date see as a feat the fact that by the end of the year Cuba has its entire population vaccinated, with its own vaccines (Abdala, Soberana 02 and Soberana Plus)”, he added.

Others know that this is the result of a sustained effort of many years by the leadership of the Revolution on the basis of a socioeconomic development strategy that gives total priority to education, the health of the people and the sciences, he said.

Along these lines, he highlighted the powerful movement of solidarity with Cuba, “which is where we can feel the greatest joy at the achievements that the Island has been exhibiting at this time, despite the tightening of the United States blockade, precisely at the times when it is worst. The disastrous effects of Covid-19 were having an impact on the country’s economy”.

The Ambassador Charge d’Affaires also referred to the beginning of a general recovery process with the resumption of all teaching activities in person, the normalization of the entire economic and social life of the country, the total opening of airports and the tourism industry to starting next November 15.

In this regard, he reported the intensification of work at the Cuban Consulates in Spain and the growing difficulties in finding free spaces on the planes of the thousands of Spanish citizens who were waiting for this moment to return to the Caribbean island.
