Cigar makers from Güines will increase the production of cigars for export.

Mayabeque, Cuba: The Juan Martínez Carballea Base Business Unit (UEB), known as the Tobacco Factory, located in Güines, aspires to increase transfers for cigar exports this year and meet market demands.

During the past year, they presented difficulties with the raw material, which became more expensive, in addition, the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic caused expenses of 300 thousand pesos in salary.

The production of tobacco transferred for export of the aforementioned business group had a value that reached 2 million 891 thousand 910 pesos.

For the present stage of work, the goal is to reach 958 thousand cigars destined for export.

In the present calendar the factory has good availability of raw material. This favored the production of 47 thousand 430 cigars. This figure represents 81 percent of the export plan. They also obtained 30 thousand 150 units for national consumption, which represents a 308 percent over compliance.

The head of production of the entity, Maritza Carulo Hernández, recognized the effort made to meet the main economic indicators, given the difficult situation in the country as a result of the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States against Cuba.

She, however, assured that the 38 tobacco growers of the entity have the potential to continue advancing towards higher steps in the production of this important line for the Cuban economy.

Carulo Hernández also informed that the UEB develops courses in order to train new personnel to obtain exportable tobacco, which today number 10.
