Early exploration can save lives.

More than three thousand Cuban women are diagnosed with breast cancer each year. This is the second cause of morbidity and mortality in women in Cuba, without ignoring that men can also suffer from it.

This condition appears more frequently after 50 years of age and in those with a history of this condition in their family, especially in the first line, such as mothers and sisters, and in obese women.

Experts recommend being vigilant and systematically developing actions such as monthly breast self-examination a week or ten days after menstruation to detect any irregularities.

They also highlight that the cases in which the woman does not menstruate, underwent a hysterectomy, is pregnant or in the menopausal stage, she must choose a fixed day per month for self-examination.

Every October 19 the world celebrates the International Day to Fight Breast Cancer, as a call for conscience and to promote access to timely and effective controls, diagnoses and treatments, all this at the initiative of experts from the World Organization of Health (WHO).

According to the data provided by the WHO, each year there are 1.38 million new cases and 458,000 deaths from breast cancer and it is the most frequent in women, both in developed and developing countries.

Except for the genetic edge, most of the risk factors are modifiable, as well as in other chronic non-communicable diseases, which even includes physical activity.
