Mayabeque, Cuba: The status and conservation of the Boca de Canasí protected area, located in Mayabeque, improves due to the restrictions imposed by Covid-19 in the country.

Located on the north coast of the Island, it has an extensive barrier of coral reefs that protects the mouths of two rivers, Puerto Escondido and Canasí. These have a very peculiar characteristic because they flow into canyons.

According to the director of conservation of the Flora and Fauna Company in Mayabeque, Andy Montero Díaz, in recent months with the restriction of population movement they conducted monitoring studies on the coral reef and were able to demonstrate a great recovery.

He also specified that the preservation of this natural heritage is vital for the Cuban government: ?It is something that has to do with the sovereignty of the country. The Cuban State exercises its right to protect its natural resources and to use them rationally?.
