Mayabeque, Cuba: The Covid has impacted on the creative work and perspective of artists. Yenny Gómez said “these are difficult times and as musicians we have had to redesign the way we project ourselves and make ourselves visible to make the public know about us regardless of the usual scenarios”.
Yeni con Kche is a group that reflects the current reality through its themes, for this statement this is the answer, “yes of course”, he exclaimed, “the human being reflects in many ways the experiences he lives and the Covid 19 us it has deeply affected everyone, especially, I think, the children, who went from going to school and playing in the streets to being totally confined, of course for their own health”
“They feel the need to take out all that they carry inside and this is the case of Guian Fabio, a little boy barely 9 years old, he likes hip hop a lot and we wrote him a song calling on everyone in general to stay in the house and protect loved ones.
In times of pandemic, music and audiovisual production is a challenge for them, “but despite all the negative problems we have dedicated ourselves to producing new music, and also our video clips, even so we have managed to make three since this virus began”.
“The most recent is Rabo de Nube, from a version we did on piano and voice of this beautiful song by Silvio Rodríguez, and for this video we have the collaboration as cameraman of Flavio Aguiar, a young filmmaker from Güines”.
Moments for creation and ingenuity fill the spaces in which themes, songs, and verses are woven together to reach the public on some occasions with premieres and on others with versions like the ones that made you my disappointment of the authorship of the prestigious Cuban singer-songwriter Pablo Milanés .
Enrique Hernández specifies: “Pablo’s songs are a reference for several generations of Cubans and this song is one of the least widespread or known, we liked it and we made a version of it in our own way and it does not lose its validity, and I think it continues being a beautiful torch like almost everything that Pablo writes”.
They are currently working on making the video clip of this topic that will soon be finished even though there are limitations due to Covid 19 that prevent taking shots outdoors.
The musical production of Solo Vuelve is another of Yeni’s most recent works with Kche, if they were told that this is one of the songs that is more than 10 years old, you would not believe it, it occurred in Damascus, back in 2006, and had not found neither the time nor the ideal moment to produce it.
“Today we are recording it with friends from Güines, who are excellent musicians, we have Elinier Guerra on percussion, and bass and guitars, with our friend Amed, we will soon put it up for everyone’s consideration because we want to release it, on Radio Mayabeque that we consider our home.
