Havana, Cuba: The family medical offices in Havana will become the clinical sites for the start of the first stage of mass vaccination against COVID-19 in Cuba.

“On Saturday April 24, Havana should be ready for that process that will be carried out with the candidates Abdala, from the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB); and Soberana 02, from the Finlay Vaccine Institute,” government officials explained.

Once the date has been defined by the country’s management, vaccination will begin with the aim of covering one million 700 thousand people, with an average of 85 subjects per clinic each day.

According to the newspaper Tribuna de La Habana, in order to have all the necessary conditions, medical assistance will be reinforced with inmates in the sixth year of the career and other students, in order to fulfill the rest of the activities.

In Havana, the phase III clinical trial with Soberana 02 takes place, which includes 44 thousand 10 volunteers from eight municipalities, as well as an intervention study in populations with a high risk of contagion, disease and spread of the pandemic, in real situations of community spread.

That interventional study, common in clinical-epidemiological analysis, covers a total of 150 thousand subjects, among which more than 70 thousand belong to the health, biotechnology and pharmaceutical sectors.

They are joined by another 124,000 from this province and the territories of Guantánamo, Granma, Santiago de Cuba and Sancti Spíritus that receive the candidate Abdala.
