Mayabeque, Cuba: The new Molecular Biology Laboratory in Mayabeque, located in San José de las Lajas, shows satisfactory results in the diagnosis of the SARS-Cov-2 virus.

The entity, equipped with cutting-edge technology from the First World, is an achievement of the province and the Cuban health system.

At the center, they currently analyze 500 to 600 daily samples, according to the Head of the Microbiology Laboratory, Master in Science Pablo Luis Sierra Hernández.

The specialist explained that the samples are collected in the Reception Department where they are listed, registered and later sent to the Extraction Department, to obtain the ribonucleic acid (RNA) and perform the PCR.

The result is issued to the Surveillance Center, which transmits the information to the Ministry of Public Health and the respective Isolation Centers of the province.

The professionalism, training and effort of the 32 workers of the entity derive in excellent results in the quality controls of the processed samples.

With a total of 14,147 samples studied since its start-up, the Mayabeque Molecular Biology Laboratory today constitutes a great strength in the province to face Covid-19.
