Suspension effective as of June 21, 2021.

Havana, Cuba: The General Customs of the Republic of Cuba (AGR) reported today that it suspends cash payments in US dollars (USD) of duties and services for importation at the border.

In a communication published on the Cubadebate site, that body recalled that on June 10, the Central Bank of Cuba announced the temporary suspension of the acceptance of bank deposits in cash of that currency, as of June 21, 2021.

As a consequence, the island’s banking and non-banking financial institutions will not accept such deposits in US dollars from natural and legal persons, including the payment of customs duties and services for importation at the border.

According to the note, these must be paid in the other currencies accepted by the Central Bank of Cuba or through the foreign currency cards that operate in the country.

The AGR, in order to avoid unnecessary inconvenience, urges people to take the measures to comply with these provisions and exercise their right to import in accordance with current legislation, the text points out.
