Havana, Cuba: The president of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel regretted today the death of the president of Haiti, Jovenel Moïse, and strongly condemned the act of violence that caused his death, Prensa Latina publishes.

On his Twitter account, the Cuban head of state sent a message of condolences to the governor’s relatives and “to our brother Haitian people,” and made a call for peace.

This Wednesday, the interim prime minister of Haiti, Claude Joseph, confirmed in a press release the murder of Moïse at his residence, in the early hours of the morning, at the hands of an armed commando made up of people who spoke Spanish.

As a result of the incident, the president’s wife, Martine Marie Etienne Joseph, was injured, but she passed away at the hospital where she had been treated.

Latin American rulers and relevant figures in the region rejected the assassination, among them the Bolivian head of state, Luis Arce; the Colombian, Iván Duque, and the Dominican, Luis Abinader.

The current president of the Caribbean Community (Caricom), Gaston Browne, summoned the leaders of that group for this day, with the aim of discussing the situation in Haiti.

The also Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda expressed his dismay at the events and described the attack in Port-au-Prince, the Haitian capital, as regrettable.
