Díaz-Canel checks the fight against Covid-19.

Havana, Cuba: The president of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, traveled today to the western province of Matanzas, the most affected by the outbreak of Covid-19, to check the implementation of the measures adopted there against the pandemic, Prensa Latina publishes.

In his Twitter account, the president announced that in this second visit to that demarcation in a week he is accompanied by Prime Minister Manuel Marrero and holders of several portfolios.

The day before, Díaz-Canel visited the provinces of Artemisa and Mayabeque (west) where he indicated to strengthen the protocols of action in the face of the increase in infections of the SARS CoV-2 virus, which causes this disease, based on the experience acquired and the new circumstances.

He also pointed out working on expanding capacities in intensive care units and maintaining the quality of care for the population.

During the week, the Cuban head of state has visited the provinces of Villa Clara, Sancti Spíritus and Cienfuegos (center), which show a sustained increase in infections of the virus.

Cuba faces the most difficult moment in the fight against the pandemic, which is why it increases control of the measures implemented for this purpose and strengthens support to the most affected territories, with the expansion of hospital, medical and resource capacities.

Matanzas is today the epicenter of the pandemic on the island, and a team led by the Minister of Public Health José Ángel Portal supervises the implementation of new protocols to combat Covid-19, which speed up the diagnosis and treatment of positive cases.
