Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bruno Rodríguez.

Havana, Cuba: Cuba denounced the United States government for its complicity in the riots that occurred on July 11, in which they used technological tools to create the image of popular mobilization they are trying to defend today.

The day before, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bruno Rodríguez, accused the administration of that northern country and in particular that of the state of Florida of granting funds to the company Proactivo Miami Foundation Inc, involved in the articulation of the campaign to incite the population to carry out destabilization actions.

The Cuban Foreign Minister denounced at a press conference that Washington identified the Covid-19 pandemic as an opportunity to reinforce the politically motivated economic blockade, in a deliberate and cruel attempt to suffocate the country and provoke social outbreaks.

This is proven by the fact that, of the 243 coercive measures implemented by the Donald Trump administration (2017-2021) to intensify the North American siege on the Caribbean nation, 50 were applied during the health emergency.

Added to this are the millions of dollars that the White House allocates each year, publicly or covertly, to promote subversion, create instability and fracture social consensus and citizen tranquility, according to Rodríguez.

This time, however, the protagonists were technologies, because through social networks the machinery of manipulation, incitement to violence, irregular migration, public disorder and even assassination began.

What happened on Sunday, July 11, was not a popular movement as they want to show, he emphasized, and explained that it was a large-scale media operation, which began in mid-June with money from the US government.

Proactive Miami Foundation Inc appears at the center of everything, as this company was articulated with means designed to attack the Antillean island, among them ADN Cuba, and with the most prolific users in the use of the #SOSCuba label, which they artificially converted in world trend.

To do this, they used robots that posted millions of messages in a short time, explained the head of Cuban diplomacy, who gave as an example that a single account from Spain placed more than a thousand tweets, at a rate of five per second.

He related that they also harassed influencers to promote the label and pressured real people to change their location, so that it seemed they were in Cuba and thus maintain that 60 percent of the messages originated in the Caribbean nation.

Rodríguez denounced that the Twitter company did not activate its anti-spam policies or close accounts, despite the warnings received about violations of its rules of use, in an attitude that he classified as scandalous and complicit.

Irresponsible was another qualifier used by the foreign minister, when referring to US politicians who promote the dispatch of naval assets from the United States to the island, at the same time that he alluded to the relationships between people who acted as Foreign Service agents and diplomats.

We hope that the United States government does not persist in the policies of its predecessors and that it acts ethically, he said, although he was surprised by the impunity with which immigration incidents are encouraged.

If he had a sincere concern for Cuba, the US president could make executive decisions and substantially modify aspects of the economic blockade, including those related to confronting the pandemic, such as those that hinder the acquisition of lung ventilators, said Rodríguez.

However, he affirmed, events such as those of Sunday will not be able to separate Cuba from its objectives: to face the pandemic, solve problems, intensify exchanges with citizens and the debate on their concerns, as well as involve people in the search for solutions.

We count on international solidarity, he added, and emphasized that the island will always act sovereignly.
