Sowing Coffee on the Plain, Utopia or Reality?

Mayabeque, Cuba: The constitution of nine specialized production centers between the territories of Mayabeque, Matanzas and Villa Clara will increase coffee production in Cuba, the Granma newspaper reports.

The director of Coffee, Cacao and Coco, of the National Agroforestry Group, Elexis Legrá Calderín, explained that the plantations will be interspersed with fruit trees to take advantage of them as shade and food.

This experience will expand and modernize small areas that will contribute to the limited crops of the mountains destined especially for national consumption.

Since 2014, soils with conditions for cultivation have been identified. The producers have received training courses and a technical instruction to train the new coffee growers. They will gradually increase the plantations until reaching 7,163 hectares, where it is intended to collect more than 4,000 tons of grain
