New protected areas and special regulations in Mayabeque.

Mayabeque, Cuba: The Official Gazette No. 111 Ordinary of October 8, 2021 of the Council of Ministers establishes new zones with special regulations, of the type of “high environmental significance and historical-cultural importance”, in the category of Protected Areas, and identifies the permitted activities and prohibitions that natural and legal persons must comply with to carry out certain activities in them.

The regulations declare in the category of Protected Areas the Gulf of Batabanó and Sureste El Inglés, located in the municipalities of Batabanó and Nueva Paz, respectively, in the province of Mayabeque.

It also has among the main prohibitions the use of fire within the limits of the protected area, as well as extracting species of flora, fauna, archaeological or speleological, or samples of any other type without official authorization. On the other hand, they allow sustainable recreation and tourism, in accordance with the functional zoning of the area and current environmental legislation; the protection and management of important values ??of the landscape, relief, biodiversity, geo-diversity and associated historical-cultural; and the coordination of activities to be carried out with the administration of the Zone with approved Special Tourism Regulations.
