Mayabeque, Cuba:  The expected potato harvest began in Melena del Sur at the Basic Unit of Cooperative Production (UBPC) October 3, according to the specialist who attends the tuber in Mayabeque, Luis Mesa.

Of the 19 hectares that this productive form has, seven were dedicated to this crop that will soon go to the table of the residents of the locality and the inhabitants of the capital.

On the ocher of the land of the Travieso Fregat lined up the characteristic bags wich are lost in the extension of the furrows, where the group of 19 workers, aided by the personnel usually hired for the task, expects to end the day with approximately a balance of 45 or 50 tons on the trucks bound for the marketer of the territory.

If there are no difficulties with the transportation, the weather behaves as at present and no other obstacles appear, they plan to end with a result of 119 tons guaranteeing, despite the difficulties, the presence of the much-loved tuber that is in great demand among Cubans, given its versatility in the kitchen and its well-known nutritional benefits.
