The Vice President of the Republic of Cuba, Salvador Valdés Mesa, visits the Osvaldo Sánchez Popular Council of Güines.

Mayabeque, Cuba: The Vice President of the Republic of Cuba, Salvador Valdés Mesa, called in Mayabeque to promote community work and food production.

When exchanging with authorities of the popular council Osvaldo Sánchez, in the municipality of Güines, Valdés Mesa was interested in comprehensive care for rural communities, sources of employment, and the main problems that affect the population, related to the situation of roads, the poor state of construction of the stops and insufficient supply of drinking water.

The also member of the Political Bureau verified the link between the Alberto Torres sugarcane cooperative and that People’s Council and learned about the operation of the production bases located in this area, the sawmill, bull feedlot, food processing and storage center, as well as of the production of materials for the housing program.

The Vice President of the Republic of Cuba coincided with participants in the First National Meeting of Students of Agricultural Sciences. As part of the event, he informed the youth about work in rural areas, and the work in the current sugar harvest, among other aspects.

The president of the popular council Osvaldo Sánchez, Daniel Oliva Dávila, explained the progress of integrated community work, participation in activities for the creation of wealth and values, taking into account municipal autonomy and the active intervention of the people.

On a tour of that community, the Cuban vice president spoke with voters and workers from the community polyclinic and the comprehensive rehabilitation room. There he had details of the Maternal and Child Care Program (PAMI), the increase in the birth rate compared to the previous year and prevention actions to avoid contagion with Covid 19.

Valdés Mesa concluded his journey at Renacimiento Farm, belonging to the Cooperative of Credits and Services 17 de Mayo, there he exchanged with the usufructuary Ramón Gasca Díaz, advanced producer in Mayabeque.

This farmer produces potatoes with a yield of 25 tons for each of the 24 hectares under his care and applies crop rotation with corn, sweet potatoes and other field foods
