Havana: The President of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, evoked today the thinking of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, about the need for Latin America to stay together, to achieve peace and development, Prensa Latina publishes.
In his Twitter account the president recalled the words spoken during the inauguration of the third Ibero-American Summit of Heads of State and Government, held in Salvador de Bahía, Brazil, on July 15, 1993, in which Fidel Castro said that no country could save itself, alone.
“The question is not that each country in our area tries to save itself, because it is an impossible dream … We need to create a giant among all of us, in order to truly develop and enjoy peace, independence and security”, Díaz-Canel cited.
Such ideas are also defended by the Cuban president in international scenarios, especially when intervening in forums organized after the health emergency caused by Covid-19.
This was stated last June 10, during the high-level virtual conference: Post-pandemic Economy of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-People’s Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP).
He then pointed out that the moment and common sense impose “putting aside political differences and, together, looking for joint solutions, through international cooperation and essential solidarity.”
The Cuban head of state called to identify the potential of each member of ALBA-TCP, based on regional economic integration that prioritizes complementarity, and the exchange of goods and services.
“The reality we face requires solidarity against selfishness”, he said, adding that “these difficult times should motivate us to continue working together, with more cooperation and agreement”.
