Mayabeque, Cuba: The Agrarian University of Havana (UNAH), Fructuoso Rodríguez Pérez is 44 years old. It was founded on September 7, 1976, under the name of the Higher Institute of Agricultural Sciences of Havana (ISCAH).
In its beginnings, it only had the careers of Agricultural Engineering, Veterinary Medicine and Agricultural Mechanization.
Given the need to broaden the profile of careers at the institute, it was decided, in 1998, to change the name to the Agrarian University of Havana (UNAH) Fructuoso Rodríguez Pérez, martyr of the events of Humboldt-7.
This institution belonging to the scientific pole of Mayabeque is the oldest of the Cuban agricultural universities and its roots are in the University of Havana, in the School of Agricultural Sciences in Quinta de los Molinos, to which the Schools of Agronomy belonged and Veterinary.
The UNAH has a total of seven Faculties: Veterinary Medicine and Zootechnics, Agronomy, Technical Sciences, Social and Humanistic Sciences and Economic Sciences, the latter created in the year 2000 and are united from the experimental phase in Higher Education (process integration), the Faculties of Pedagogical Sciences and Physical Culture in 2013.
Due to its results throughout these years, it maintains links of academic and scientific-technical cooperation with various countries.
At 44 years of its founding, UNAH is committed to the local development of the 11 municipalities of Mayabeque, based on their integration into scientific-community projects.
It is located at kilometer 23 and a half, of the National Highway, in the San José de las Lajas municipality, Mayabeque province.
San José de las Lajas is chosen for its construction due to its agricultural boom, as it has the Institute of Animal Science (ICA), the National Center for Agricultural Health (Censa) and the National Institute of Agricultural Science (INCA), Scientific Teaching Complex for the training of comprehensive professionals, capable of facing new challenges.
Due to the epidemiological situation of the country, young university students will celebrate the event through social networks with the publication of images of the center of higher studies and memories of their student work in the institution, before the arrival of Covid-19 to the Cuban archipelago.
