Mayabeque, Cuba: Deputy Prime Minister Jorge Luis Tapia Fonseca oversaw the preparations for the 2020-2021 sugar harvest at the Boris Luis Santa Coloma Base Business Unit (UEB), located in Madruga.
“Things are going well, but they have to be better because all the tasks need an extra effort to contribute to the advancement of the national economy in the current complex scenario”, Tapia Fonseca said.
In a fruitful working meeting with leaders of the sector, it emerged that the repair plan is being fulfilled as planned in industry and agriculture, with the purpose of starting operations at the end of November and concluding them in April 2021.
Tapia Fonseca called for changing concepts and weighing the integrity of all the factors involved in the contest, giving priority to improving working conditions.
Savings and quality should be premises of each day, including the compliance with hygienic-sanitary measures and physical distancing, the leader said.
The optimal use of sugarcane is one of the main challenges in the municipality’s sugar harvest, registering a decrease in agricultural yields affected by adverse weather conditions and the lack of fertilizers.
