Mayabeque, Cuba: The Local Agricultural Innovation Program (PIAL) in Mayabeque contributes to improving the gender equity indexes in rural contexts.
In Cuba more than 66 thousand women are linked to the National Association of Small Farmers (ANAP) and in Mayabeque 45 percent of the agrarian population guarantees part of the food security in their communities.
Peasant women in Cuba star in important programs associated with production while participating in decision-making to achieve sustainable development.
According to the President of the ANAP in Mayabeque, Maikel Zayas Héctor, more than 4760 women work in Cooperatives of Agricultural Production (CPA) and Credit and Services (CCS).
The PIAL develops gender workshops in cooperatives, trains women creators, starting from those who are linked to food production, raising animals, in the development of mass organizations and the role played by women in the peasant family, who not only dedicate themselves to food production or work within the home from their direct participation in food production.
