Washington: Former US President Barack Obama (2009-2017) today asked to vote like never before in the upcoming elections and criticized President Donald Trump’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

In what was his second event in Florida in just four days to endorse Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden, the former president urged attendees of this afternoon’s rally to exercise their right to vote early, either in person or by mail.

“Do not wait. Mail or drop it off today. Don’t risk it, just do it”, Obama said at Camping World Stadium in the city of Orlando.

The former president added that, for those who have already cast their ballots, their job now is to help their friends and family to make a plan to vote, because this election requires each and every one of us, and what we do this week will matter in the next decades ”.

During the event, which drew supporters in about 270 cars, Biden’s campaign reported, Obama praised the Democratic presidential hopeful, who he said is a man who learned early to treat everyone with dignity and respect.

“Florida, this is serious. Joe and Kamala will protect your health care, expand Medicare, make insurance more affordable for everyone. Because Joe knows that the first job of a president is to keep us safe from all threats, foreign, domestic and microscopic”.

In that sense, he condemned Trump’s comments on the Covid-19 pandemic and the response given by the Republican to the health crisis, recalling that the northern nation accumulates more than 225 thousand deaths, and that 100 thousand small businesses closed their doors.

“If he had focused on Covid from the beginning, cases would not reach new all-time highs across the country this week.”

“If we were focused on Covid now, the White House would not have its second outbreak in a month”, Obama said as drivers in the vehicles surrounding the podium honked their horns and cheered.

In his speech, the former president pointed out that Florida is the state with the highest enrollment of people in the Affordable Care Act, known as Obamacare, which may be in danger because the Supreme Court will very soon evaluate legal challenges on the constitutionality of that regulation.

This new act of Obama in Florida, after holding an event on Saturday in Miami, confirms the importance of the southern territory for the appointment at the polls, when the polls show a very close fight between the two candidates in that state.
