Venezuela: The Government of Venezuela today formalized before the World Health Organization (WHO) its finding about the DR-10 molecule, capable of inhibit COVID-19 100 percent, Cubadebate publishes.
As reported by Vice President Delcy Rodríguez, during a meeting with the representative of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and the WHO in Venezuela, Pier Paolo Balladelli, they shared the results of the preclinical study of the Venezuelan Institute of Scientific Research on the molecule, belonging to a medicinal plant.
“We have formalized this finding before the WHO to begin the corresponding international procedures, with a view to certification and registration”, the vice president added.
The meeting took place a day after Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro announced that that country had managed to develop a drug, based on DR-10, which inhibits 100 percent of the disease, without any type of toxicity that affect healthy molecules.
During the presidential announcement, the Minister of Science and Technology, Gabriela Jiménez, explained that a group of Venezuelan scientists began a chemical study in isolated cells infected with viruses from patients positive for coronavirus, to which various concentrations of the molecule were supplied, which is a derivative of ursolic acid (a triterpene compound found in various fruits and vegetables).
“This molecule shows 100% inhibition of virus replication ‘in vitro’. It was evaluated in healthy cells without showing toxicity”, the minister said.
