Havana, Cuba: President Miguel Díaz-Canel and other Cuban authorities goes back today to a phase of autochthonous limited transmission to several western provinces due to the complex epidemiological scenario caused by Covid-19, Prensa Latina publishes.

The temporary working group at the national level approved the return to the epidemic stage in the phase of autochthonous limited transmission of Artemisa, Mayabeque and the Isla de la Juventud Special Municipality, territories where there is an upward trend in cases.

With these changes, only the provinces of Sancti Spíritus, Granma and Las Tunas remain in the new normal phase, while the rest are in different moments of recovery.

During the meeting, the Minister of Public Health, José Ángel Portal Miranda, reported that in January the average number of cases per day rose to 501.2, increasing by more than 300 percent over the previous month.

“The greatest contributions of incidence during the week were represented by Havana with 42.3 percent, Santiago de Cuba with 15.5 percent and Guantánamo with 13.9 percent”, he added.

As part of the exchange with leaders of the most affected provinces, the authorities insisted on respecting the established health protocols, strengthening active research, creating greater hospitalization capacities and speeding up the results of real-time PCR tests.

Cuba reported record figures in the last 24 hours in the number of cases in one day (1044), as well as in the number of discharges in one day (1065).
