Mayabeque, Cuba: At the end of the cold season, San Nicolás farmers work to achieve stability in their productions and contribute to import substitution to achieve greater local autonomy.

Despite the effects that the campaign had in the beginning, the producers and peasants of the territory comply with the population supply values established for a maximum of 24 pounds per capita.

This was stated by the director of the Base Business Unit (UEB) of agriculture, Juan Carlos Farray García, who added that at the moment they supply tomato, lettuce, Chinese cabbage and cassava although delivery to the markets today is not enough.

On the other hand, they take measures in the locality to rescue those crops in danger and other alternatives are adopted in the livestock sphere for a greater obtaining of milk as well as the increase of cultivable hectares fundamentally for the production of rice and beans, determining factors in the substitution of imports.

“Since the previous year, the 24 wineries that the municipality has have received around 21 thousand liters of fluid milk to save the country the expense of the powdered milk it acquired abroad”, Farray García added.
