Quito: Adults over 50 with physical disabilities equal to or greater than 75 percent will exercise their right to vote today as part of the second round of presidential elections in Ecuador, Prensa Latina publishes.

The exercise, which is carried out on a voluntary basis, is attended by 653 people registered in the “Voting at Home” program nationwide, of whom 323 are men and 330 women.

The initiative has been executed by the National Electoral Council (CNE) since 2012 and allows that sector of the population to vote in their homes, with all the guarantees of transparency in the process.

To that end, the CNE had 173 routes established nationwide and each one will serve a maximum of four or five people, under biosecurity measures, to avoid infections with the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus.

According to the instance, the appropriate mechanisms will be guaranteed so that citizens with disabilities can exercise their right.

In Ecuador, a total of 426 thousand 738 people with disabilities are part of the Electoral Register and in addition to the Home Voting modality, they have Preferential Attention Tables in the voting precincts, to expedite the right of that segment to define the authorities at the polls.

The jousts of this day are part of the early elections, as well as that of the inmates without a final sentence, carried out the day before in deprivation of liberty centers in 20 of the 24 provinces.

In that case, 8,307 inmates were called to the polls, of whom 7,862 are men and 445 women, distributed in 39 prisons.

These votes are part of the planned ballot between the pairs made up of Andrés Arauz-Carlos Rabascall (Union for Hope progressive coalition) and Guillermo Lasso-Alfredo Borrero (center-right CREO-Christian Social Party alliance), who opt for the positions of president and vice president of the nation.

The massive day is set for Sunday throughout the national territory and the circumscriptions abroad.

The winning pair will be sworn in on May 24 before the National Assembly (parliament) and must serve for a period of four years.
