Mayabeque, Cuba: With the conviction that we will continue to be faithful to the legacy of our martyrs and to the example of Fidel and Raúl, the 8th Congress of the Communist Party of Cuba, PCC, is taking place.
A young congress, not because it is only the 8th, but because of the indisputable importance gained by newcomers in the various tasks entrusted by the Revolution.
Despite the fact that Congress has a high percentage of people over 55 years of age, specifically 42.6 percent, we cannot forget that young mass that did not cease to support each of the processes to which they were summoned.
If you asked me about the support of this mass, in these difficult times, my word would be extraordinary.
Because the human being who respects himself also respects the ground he steps on and the country where he was born, and this is how our young people act, with character, often from anonymity, but present, when transmitting ideas, in the process innovative of our culture, in everything because that is how we Cubans are, we all support each other.
Like the young people who participated in the feat of Playa Girón 60 years ago, today a new vigorous generation arises, and above all aware of its role in this Revolution and in line with each of the processes carried out.
As our eternal leader said in a speech delivered on the spot on the occasion of the first graduation from the Latin American School of Medicine, at the Karl Marx Theater, on August 20, 2005: “If young people fail, everything will fail. It is my deepest conviction that the Cuban youth will fight to prevent it I believe in you”.
