Young Scientists Workshop Award Ceremony.

Mayabeque, Cuba: The VIII edition of the Young Scientists Workshop concluded at the National Center for Agricultural Health (CENSA).

At the meeting that was held virtually for several days, 43 papers from the Agrarian University of Havana, the National Institute of Agricultural Sciences, the Institute for Poultry Research and the National Center for Agricultural Health were presented.

According to the criteria of the evaluating commission, the works presented respond to: the Sustainable Development Goals until 2030, the country’s priorities in terms of food security, specifically food production, the confrontation with the SARS Cov 2 virus, the expansion of the COVID-19 disease, among others.

The same source cited that the knowledge shown, in the works received, also contributes to the vision of health in animal, plant and human health.

In the VIII Workshop, two works were awarded in the category of relevant Antibacterial activity of the essential oil of Thymus vulgaris and effect on the cellular permeability of Salmonella enteric. Annie Rubio, CENSA and Characterization of the in vitro culture of Rhizophagus irregularis associated with transformed roots of Cichorium Intybus L. Sussy Saymara, INCA.

Two works also reached the category of outstanding: Obtaining silver nanoparticles by cationic bio-reduction, with antimicrobial properties.
