Mayabeque, Cuba: The agro-sugar sector of Mayabeque applies measures to speed up the work in the planting of sugarcane corresponding to the spring stage, affected by the current epidemic in the country.
Increasing the use of ox teams in weeding activities, clearing the land, planting sugarcane and applying herbicides and cachaça as organic fertilizer are some of the strategies applied.
According to Osmany Esteban Cuello Marrero, the Head of the Cane Production and Irrigation Group of the Base Business Unit of Attention to Producers of Mayabeque, they rehabilitate the suckers using fertilizers and concentrate the workforce on cleaning the new vines.
