Mayabeque, Cuba: The President of the José Martí Society Branch of the province, Mercedes Guerra González, was the only Mayabeque woman to receive the replica of the Machete Mambí of Generalissimo Máximo Gómez, recently delivered at the San Carlos de la Cabaña Fortress.
With tears in her eyes and passion in her words, the educator confessed the deep emotion she felt when she received, from the hands of Abel Prieto, the replica of Máximo Gómez’s machete.
For her, this award means greater social commitment as a promoter of the thought and work of José Martí. In her 46-year career, the constant formation of values in children, youth and adults stands out. She also encourages the study of the History of Cuba and leaves in the new generations the conviction that Martí and Fidel will be eternal guides of the Homeland.
