Brasilia: The National Union of Students (UNE) of Brazil and other student organizations called for today, on Student Day, a national mobilization for education and against the government of Jair Bolsonaro, Prensa Latina publishes.
The UNE denounces in the announcement the budget cuts in the universities, which leave the institutions in a state of emergency, without resources, and at risk of closing their doors.
“In the midst of the pandemic, in which it is necessary to reinforce research, adaptations for distance classes or hybrid education, expand retention policies, as students and their families lost income, the Government chooses to discard education. It is unacceptable”, Bruna Brelaz, president of the UNE, said.
The student entities also warn about the omission of the Ministry of Education that does not present investment projects for the sector, nor proposals and resources to adapt the schools for the safe return to classes.
This Tuesday, the UNE and parties, such as that of the Workers, presented an Argument of Breach of a Fundamental Precept (ADPF) in the Supreme Federal Court to reopen the registration with exemption to absent students in the 2020 edition, who could not comply the justification period, due to suspicions of Covid-19.
The reasons for the ADPF are the 3.2 million participants in the National Secondary Education Exam this year without exemption compared to last year’s edition, many of them harmed by the decision of the Education portfolio to withdraw the gratuity to absent candidates in 2020.
Such a determination represents the denial of the severity of the pandemic (the adverse conditions when the test was conducted in the middle of the second wave in Brazil) and that it harms millions of low-income students, resulting in 46 percent fewer of enrolled than in 2020, returning to the level of 2005.
“The last edition of the exam was marked by inequality. We will not accept another test in which the dreams of millions of young people are left behind”, Rozana Barroso, president of the Brazilian Union of High School Students, said.
According to the organizers, the student mobilization is part of the #ForaBolsonaro (Get out Bolsonaro) Campaign, which had its fourth demonstration on July 24.
In all the protests, in addition to the demand for the removal of the ruler, the protesters demand to ease the mass vaccination process against Covid-19 and raise to 600 reais per month (about 106 dollars) the emergency aid for informal workers, the unemployed and poor families.
Similarly, the request for more resources for education and against the privatization of the Eletrobras and Correos companies was included. (BSH)
