Cyclonic alarm phase established from Havana to Isla de la Juventud,

According to information from the Forecast Center of the Institute of Meteorology, tropical storm Ida will continue to gain in organization and intensity and will maintain a similar course and speed of movement approaching the national territory, Granma newspaper publishes.

In the next few hours it is forecast that storm-force winds will extend to more than 150 km from its center, tidal waves will originate on the southern coast of the provinces from Pinar del Río to Cienfuegos, which will cause moderate coastal flooding in low-lying areas in the provinces from Mayabeque to Pinar del Río, including the Isla de la Juventud Special Municipality and the chances of heavy rains will increase.

Taking into account the potential danger that this organism represents, it was decided to establish the Cyclonic Alarm Phase, for the provinces of Havana, Mayabeque, Artemisa, Pinar del Río and the Special Municipality of Isla de la Juventud, starting at 09:00 a.m.

The provinces from Sancti Spíritus to Matanzas remain in the Informative Phase and the rest must keep in attention on the evolution of this system.

The population is oriented to keep up-to-date with the information from the Institute of Meteorology and Civil Defense, through the media and official profiles of social networks and to comply with discipline with the instructions given by the local authorities.

The Forecast Center of the Institute of Meteorology and the National Civil Defense Staff keep watch over this cyclonic organism.
