Mayabeque, Cuba: Experts from the Institute of Animal Science (ICA) in Mayabeque develop the genetic improvement program for rabbit species in the country, taking into account the characteristics of greater incidence in obtaining rabbits for meat.

“We evaluate different breeds and we are linked with the rabbit farming group of the Cuban Association for Animal Production (ACPA),” Raquel Ponce de León Sentí, a researcher from the genetics department at ICA, explained.

Ponce de León Sentí highlights the importance of this scientific project and of contributing to the supply of meat.

The objective of the program is the continuous improvement in the productivity and economic efficiency of breeds to use intercrosses.
