While 65.5 percent of the national population completed the immunization scheme against SARS-Cov-2, Soto said.

The doctor reported that conditions are currently being prepared for the third dose of Soberana Plus in the pediatric population, with which infants will complete their scheme and can join their schools in person.

Compliance with the immunization program and self-care measures will put us in a better epidemiological situation in the coming weeks, Soto predicted on the Mesa Redonda radio and television program.

In this context, Cuba is finalizing details to shortly administer a booster dose against Covid-19, according to the Director of Scientific Policy of the Group of Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical Industries (CubaBioCubaFarma), Rolando Pérez.

“The booster dose campaign will begin in the next few days once the Center for State Control of Medicines, Equipment and Medical Devices authorizes and will culminate in the first half of 2022,” said Pérez.

Cuba’s vaccines have a three-dose schedule, but the booster dose will not only increase the number of memory cells, but also have a higher quality, Pérez stressed in the program.

We will be promoting antibodies with a better neutralizing capacity, emphasized Pérez.

The booster dose is not an exclusive phenomenon of the largest of the Antilles, 27 countries approved it, 12 of them from Latin America, and in this process other vaccines can be combined.

Our immunogens are safe, without serious adverse effects, confirmed Pérez, who explained that the strategy will be phased in order to achieve greater protection against new variants and flexibility measures.
