Havana, Cuba: With the aim of analyzing problems that threaten the quality of goods and services in different spheres, the 2021 International Metrology Symposium begins today in Cuba.
Traceability and uncertainty of measurements, accreditation of calibration and testing laboratories, measurements in the health sector, biotechnology, energy and nuclear technologies, will be topics for debate.
According to the organizers, aspects of metrology in the quality and legality infrastructure will also be analyzed.
The appointment – which will take place virtually until Friday – will have the motto “Measurements, a guarantee for the economy, commerce and citizen security.” Lectures will be given by distinguished personalities of Metrology, thematic workshops and pre-event courses.
According to the Director General of the Cuban National Standardization Office, Nancy Fernández, a world without reliable and quality measurement is impossible.
Measurement systems – the directive pointed out – must advance at the same speed that new technologies demand.
Metrology is important for all areas of life and is highly regulated by the States, it is even a matter of national security, as it also has a use in the defense of a nation, she pointed out.
It has ties with the internal control of a country’s resources and assets, and measurements should not be subject to false positives, Fernández stressed.
The Director General of the Office of National Standardization highlighted that amid the difficulties that the Caribbean country is going through, there is a political will to maintain Metrology at the best level.
