Mayabeque, Cuba: The Mayabeque Technical Orthopedics Laboratory guarantees the production of supports for clavicle and hip fractures, as well as footwear required by people with disabilities and injured people.
As part of the Social Inclusion Program in this province, this center attends to around 300 patients monthly. Headquartered in the municipality of Güines, the technicians of this institution also produce prostheses, adjusters for mastectomized women and means for people with other diseases.
People with physical motor limitations, with amputations of legs and thighs, from Nursing Homes and the Psychopedagogical Medical Center also receive care.
According to the entity’s Director, José Enrique Ferrer, the services most in demand at the moment are footwear and orthopedic support, lumbosacral girdle, abdominal girdles and the new Taylor back brace and corset service.
“We also make all kinds of orthopedic footwear. Everything that is within the eight points, which includes deformation, shortening, amputation, claw toes, hammer toes, bunions, Genu Recurvatum, Dennis Brown, inverted last and elastic Twister”, explained José Enrique Ferrer.
