Parliamentarians from Cuba and Mexico in dialogue to promote cooperation.

Havana, Cuba: Parliamentarians from Cuba and Mexico are discussing collaboration projects to boost bilateral relations starting today in this capital, Prensa Latina publishes.

During the sessions of the XVII Inter-parliamentary Meeting, which will be held until tomorrow, there will be four panels on economic relations, health collaboration, multilateral cooperation and educational, cultural and sports links.

Zailin Gaulhiac Moráguez, official of the International Relations Commission of the National Assembly of People’s Power (parliament) of Cuba said that these inter-parliamentary meetings have proven to be a valuable instrument to propose initiatives among the participating countries seek solutions to common problems and draw strategies future.

A press release from the Cuban parliament informed that the official program of the meeting includes visits to scientific centers located in this capital and at the end of the event the delegations will issue a Final Declaration.

In June 1996, the Congress of the United Mexican States and the National Assembly of People’s Power of the Republic of Cuba signed a Protocol establishing the holding of Inter-parliamentary Meetings between both countries.

The main objective was to lay the foundations for maintaining permanent cooperation and exchange of information that would contribute to solving common problems and promoting the development of Latin America and the Caribbean.

During these years, the two legislatures have recognized that strengthening democracy and economic cooperation are the most important points and have spoken in favor of respecting the principles of non-intervention and sovereign self-determination.
