They celebrate in Vietnam the Day of National Rebellion in Cuba.

Hanoi: The traditional celebration in Vietnam of the assault on the Moncada Garrison in Cuba took place today in the northern province of Vinh Phuc, in the year in which both countries celebrate the 60th anniversary of their diplomatic relations, Prensa Latina publishes.

The Island’s ambassador in that country, Lianys Torres, meant that also these days the two nations show signs of their close friendship by sending medical supplies to each other to support the confrontation of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The diplomat praised the results achieved by Vietnam and Cuba in the face of the disease and noted that although it has forced a rethink of the original program for the 60 years of their diplomatic relations, the celebrations will live up to such a memorable occasion.

For his part, the sub secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam and vice president of the People’s Committee of the province, Le Duy Thanh, highlighted the historical significance of the assault on Moncada and the results of bilateral cooperation in these six decades of exemplary relations.

Torres and other Cuban diplomats toured the non-state company Viet Duc Steel, one of the leading in the steel industry in the country, and other places of interest of Vinh Phuc, including one of its main tourist and nature conservation enclaves, Tam Dao National Park.

During their stay in the province, they were accompanied by directors of the Union of Vietnam Friendship Associations and the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Association, organizations that, like every year, sponsored the celebration of National Rebellion Day in the country in the Caribbean nation.

On July 26, 1953, a group of young people led by Fidel Castro stormed the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes barracks in the east of the island to resume the struggles for full independence and sovereignty of the country, unfinished at the end of the previous century.

On the occasion of the date, dissimilar activities to reaffirm their feelings towards the Caribbean nation are always held in Vietnamese provinces and cities and the country’s main leaders send congratulatory messages to their counterparts and the Cuban people.
