Hanoi: Leaders of the Communist Party, the National Assembly, the State, the Government and the Front of the Homeland (FPV) today paid tribute to President Ho Chi Minh on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the independence of Vietnam, Prensa Latina publishes.
Among those who placed flower offerings in front of the monument where the mummified body of revered Uncle Ho is preserved were Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and FPV President Tran Thanh Man.
Current and former Party leaders, ministers, military chiefs and representatives of state and social organizations also came to the mausoleum to revere the country’s first president. Attendees also laid flowers in front of the neighboring Monument to the Heroes and Martyrs of War.
Vietnam celebrates its National Day on September 2 because on a date like that of 1945, Ho Chi Minh read the Declaration of Independence in the capital’s Ba Dinh Square against the defeated French colonialism.
But the self-sacrificing Southeast Asian nation still had to fight another 30 years and offer the lives of millions of its sons to defeat the invasion of American troops and achieve the reunification of the country on April 30, 1975.
Unfortunately, Ho Chi Minh was not a witness to that, perhaps the most important moment in the history of Vietnam, since the architect of national independence died on September 2, 1969.
That is why the Vietnamese celebrate the date with a mixture of joy and pain, but always with eternal gratitude to those who taught them that there was nothing more precious than freedom and independence.
