Mayabeque, Cuba: The Defense Council in Mayabeque adopts measures to preserve human lives and the State’s economic assets in the face of the strong winds and coastal flooding that tropical depression Eta can cause.
The actions are aimed at minimizing the risks of disasters, collecting as much food as possible from the fields and protecting the animal mass in the genetic and agricultural companies.
One of the most important issues is the surveillance of dams, micro-dams and reservoirs in order to prevent flooding in low-lying areas of coastal municipalities. This was announced by the director of the Hydraulic Utilization Company Isbel Rodríguez Domínguez.
The vice president of the Provincial Defense Council, Tamara Valido, spoke about the protection of resources in the fishing zone of the Gulf of Batabanó.
She specified that it is important to keep vessels and containers in a safe position, as well as the transfer of some of them to their destination.
She alerted about the measures to be taken into account according to the disaster reduction plan in the Batabanó Fishing Company and preserve the lives of the inhabitants of this coastal area, the workers of the entity and the State assets.
In the Public Health sector, the professionals take into account the orientations of the highest management of the province in the evacuation and food processing centers, and medical institutions when the weather event occurs.
The director of the sector, Doctor Luis Armando Wong Corrales, specified that the conditions have been created, there is availability of medicines and medical transport in case of difficulties or patient care.
After the Provincial Defense Council, a video conference was held with the municipalities of Mayabeque to verify the preparation and fulfillment of the plan of measures and tasks during the information phase.
The Deputy Governor Manuel Aguiar Lamas and the Vice President of the Provincial Assembly of People’s Power of the demarcation, Laura María Gálvez, led the meeting.
In it they explained the need to activate disaster reduction plans, analyzed the hydro meteorological situation, the availability of the necessary equipment to face these situations and the guarantee of water supply to the population.
Among other issues, they specified with the municipal assemblies what is related to the unblocking of drains, dredging of ditches and the availability of water to the population of the communities of Rio Hondo, Babiney and Gavilán, among others, during the pass of Eta.
During the meeting, the Chief of Civil Defense in the Mayabeque Military Region, Captain Roberto Hernández Hernández, explained the most important guidelines to avoid loss of human life and resources due to weather events.
